This is a safety glass. It is regularly used in place of standard glass as it is 4 – 5 times stronger than standard glass that poses a potential danger to users when it breaks into sharp shards upon impact. When shattered, tempered glass breaks into small oval-shaped pebbles and do not have sharp edges that could cut. Tempered glass is manufactured through a process of extreme heating and rapid cooling, making it harder than normal glass.
The thermal process that is used to treat tempered glass also makes it heat resistant. It also has higher bending strength and is thus more resistant to impact.
Tempered glass is usually chosen for specific automotive, commercial, building as well as household uses which require protective characteristics.
